Meet Amy

I have struggled with the answer when asked, "What do you do?" and it isn't work-related. Ultimately, we settled on that I find things and untangle things. But I also read (a lot), pretend to wake surf, and watch Hallmark films.

The Weekend Away
it was amazing
So so good! Orla and Kate are long-time best friends off on a girls' weekend away. Kate is a bit of a player who is trying to get back at her soon-to-be-ex, causing her to spend frivolously and do drugs and hook-ups. Orla is a new mom ex...

Maybe Next Time
really liked it
Parts were a screaming 5 and parts were like “what?” And just irritated me. It is a Groundhog Day premise about a family of four - the mom is caught up in her own life and missing all that is going on around her with her kids and then he...

A moment of nice weather... (Photo Story Friday and GMYBS)

I’ve been in meetings – over the phone – almost none stop since Monday morning at 6 AM.  That means I have not enjoyed much of my time off the phone because I have so much work to catch up on.  It also means I haven’t had my camera out since Sunday afternoon.  So today, I decided to take a few moments to snap a couple of pictures with my phone in tow.  So while I was listening to my coworkers talking about what is working, I was taking pictures.  I luckily timed it in between SNOW storms.

So, here’s how Zero is growing.  He’s 12 weeks old now and still TONS of work.  He’s nippy still and has really hyper moments.  But, he is learning some tricks and is getting better about using the outside instead of the inside for potty breaks.  He’ll even sit at the door when he needs to go out.  Phew.  Scott is still allergic.  I think I’ll get him groomed in the next little bit and see if that helps at all.  Fingers crossed.

This is the Lilac right outside my back door.  I love this plant.  It gets so beautiful when it blooms.  Plus the smell is divine.

Here are a couple of Bleeding Heart pictures.  Sadly the bush has not done well with the weather changes lately.  We had snow last week and a major wind storm this week.  There are broken branches every where and it is nearly laying flat.

When we moved into our house, Costco had a great sale on Flowering Pear Trees.  So we have a bunch of them in our backyard.  Which is great because I think they are so much fun in the spring time.

Well, there’s my yard this spring afternoon.  Check out other bloggers best shots and photostory fridays….

Family Find - Photo and Data Back up

For starters, I am receiving nothing from this company but as is my standard, I like to share things with you that we have found on our own and use because we LOVE them.

How many pictures have you taken since the dawn of the digital age?  According to my photos folder, I have over 80,000 images – yikes.

photo taken from the Mozy site

We’ve decided to go with Mozy as our off-site backup plan.  For the past many many years, we have had our “media” drive mirrored to another drive and that back up happens every Sunday night.  We feel pretty comfortable with that solution UNLESS the basement floods (which is where our file server is), or if our house burns down, or if something freakish happens and everything is wiped clean.  So, after much thought, we have decided that the less than 5$ a month cost of Mozy is worth our piece of mind.

Here is what Mozy has to say about what they offer…

  • Mozy is simple to set up.
  • It performs backups automatically in the background while you continue working.
  • It handles versioning, storing yesterday’s renditions as well as today’s renditions of your files with each backup, allowing you to pull data from different backup dates.
  • It encrypts all your files before transferring them to storage.
  • It’s fast because it backs up only the data that has changed.
  • It backs up both open and locked files.
  • It’s inexpensive and reliable.

I totally agree with all of that, but I will say one negative thing about it…

THE FIRST UPLOAD TAKES FREAKING FOREVER!!!!

They say that you can do 2 GB per day unless you have a really fast connection and then you can do 9 GB.  I thought we had a really fast connection.  (At least that is what Comcast promised us).

When I have been asked about our back-up plan for our thousands and thousands of photos.  I tell them we went with Mozy.  The response is always the same, “Aren’t you worried about them going away or all of a sudden they are just gone?”  I don’t actually worry about that.  Mozy (a local company) was bought by EMC (a fortune 500 company).  I am confident that should something happen they will be notifying us prior to everything being wiped away from their system.  Also, we aren’t being irresponsible and deleting them from the original storage system.  So, if they do go away, the only real problem is if they go away the same day my file server gets fried.  Let’s just hope I have better luck than that.

You can go and give Mozy a try for FREE.  They offer 2 GB for free and then if you are happy, you can upgrade.  You’ll just need to download the program, pick what you want backed up and let it go.  Remember the first time around is SUPER slow.  Patience is a virtue – right?

*** PS – My husband just let me know that we are getting 9gb per day but when you are backing up 450 gb it is going to take a REALLY REALLY LONG TIME.

Tattoo to save the world....

Some prompts are easier than other prompts.  This week, Mama Kat gave some tough ones.  Here’s the one I picked…

4.) The world is going to come to an end unless you get a tattoo that covers your entire back. Describe the tattoo you’ll get.

Tattoos hurt.

Tattoos stretch when you get fat.

Tattoos fade over time.

Tattoos hurt more to get removed.

So I don’t have a tattoo.

But I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the tattoo I would get if I did get one.

This is what I would get on my shoulder blade…

But since I apparently need to get a tattoo to save the world, here is what I would get…

The angel from this painting…

Pink and Purple Ribbons draping from it and the words “Credendo Vides” written below.

The painting that the angel is from is called  “Sometimes the Spirit Touches Us Through Our Weaknesses” it is by James Christensen.  He’s my favorite.

The pink and purple ribbons are in support of Cancer Awareness.  My cousin’s wife has breast cancer and my grandpa died from lung cancer.

The Latin means “Believing is Seeing” or something close to that.

My tattoo may not really save the world, but it would share my belief of what could help save the world.

*** The photo of Jade’s back was done on a day when the girls had me draw tattoos for them.  I love my sharpies for days like that.

Wordful Wednesday - Dance Teachers...

I know I have said this before, but I really do love Jade and Ivy’s dance teachers.  I am so impressed with all that they give for these little girls.  They are so supportive and I truly believe they want the best for all of the girls in their group.    I don’t think there are words enough to describe how much I adore these two beautiful women.  So I guess this post is more wordless than wordful. 🙂
