Meet Amy

I have struggled with the answer when asked, "What do you do?" and it isn't work-related. Ultimately, we settled on that I find things and untangle things. But I also read (a lot), pretend to wake surf, and watch Hallmark films.

The Weekend Away
it was amazing
So so good! Orla and Kate are long-time best friends off on a girls' weekend away. Kate is a bit of a player who is trying to get back at her soon-to-be-ex, causing her to spend frivolously and do drugs and hook-ups. Orla is a new mom ex...

Maybe Next Time
really liked it
Parts were a screaming 5 and parts were like “what?” And just irritated me. It is a Groundhog Day premise about a family of four - the mom is caught up in her own life and missing all that is going on around her with her kids and then he...

Wow - those are great business cards!

When I went to the Casual Bloggers Conference a couple of weeks ago, I knew I needed some cards.  (It was part of their list of things to get ready before you go).  So, I spent a little bit of time working with “my” designer.  I had worked with her on the logo for my blog and loved the feel of the logo she created.  So, I wanted something similar for my business cards.  In a jiffy, she came back with AWESOME cards.

See?  Pretty great, huh?  (I can say that because I didn’t make them).

Allow me to introduce the creative brains behind my cards.  Kat Fuller at KatTails Design.  She is extremely talented and fast.  I’ve used her skills for our girls’ school schedule calendar, and the nanny’s daily journal pages.  A local software company uses her for battle cards, post cards and posters.  Kat has done branding for a beauty salon, a sales company and a pretty awesome blanket company.  Plus she does a fantastic job on invitations and cards.  In fact, she’ll be selling card packs at a boutique soon.

If you are in the market for some invitations for a special event, great business cards or personal branding, I highly recommend Kat.  (via email at ksfuller@gmail.com or cell 801.836.6844).

Not only is she really talented, she is very thorough.  She has done her research to know where to get things printed for the best rate and the best quality.  (Sometimes those are the same but not always).

Swing by her website and check out her galleries.  Then give her a call or drop her an email.  She’s perfect for your next project.

***This was not a sponsored post.  I simply love what she does and as part of my “Family Finds” I just HAD to share.

Before I was a mom...

I became a mom just weeks before my 31st birthday.  Which means, I got a lot of living done before I slowed my life down to be a mom.

Before I was a mom, I traveled.  I would spend several weeks in different cities across the US.   It was glorious and challenging all at the same time.  It was a time I will never forget and a time I would never want to relive.  For 18 months I lived out of a suitcase.  I made amazing friends – none of whom I communicate with now.  Some of the restaurants I dined at were the finest I’ve ever enjoyed.  I couldn’t keep a relationship alive at home, but I didn’t care.  I was experiencing the country.  There were weeks my family or friends would join me in whatever city my job found me in.

Before I was a mom, I took care of myself.  I got my hair done on a regular basis.  Sometimes, I even got my nails done.  The gym was my friend.  In fact, I had a trainer.  Three days a week, I took a dance class and was performing on the stage.  I could swim a mile without taking a break.  My skin didn’t have age spots.  My face didn’t have a pregnancy mask.  Sleeping through the night was normal, if I was tired, it was my own choice for staying out late.

Before I was a mom, Scott and I played a lot.  We had two “boys” that we called “Red” and “Blue”.  (Blue was my engagement ring).  Together we went golfing.  For fun we camped.  During our time as a couple, we enjoyed every minute we could together.

Before I was a mom, I never knew what it meant to hold the most beautiful and precious little bundle in my arms.  The love of a mother filled my heart and soul more than I thought humanly possible.    I knew what it meant to give my heart to a man (because I fell in love with Scott), but to give my heart to my baby was something new and wonderful.  Something greater than anything else I had ever experienced.  Being a mother brought emotions I never dreamed of in the forms of love, fear, worry, pride, joy, sorrow, sacrifice and compassion.  I would never go back to before I was a mom.  Because, as hard as it is to be a mom, it is the greatest time of my life.

What weights 4.5 million lbs and moves at a snail's pace but only at the night?

Last week, I was wordful about “Seizing the Moment“.  This week, we had another one of those moments.  Sunday night, at ten PM, the Freeway was closed so that the new overpass could be put in place.  I followed @pioneercrossing on twitter and found out when they were going to start moving the bridge.   At 9:00 we asked the girls if they wanted to stay up late and go watch it.  They were so excited to get go.  Ivy asked us every 10 minutes if it was time to go yet.  In the meantime, they watched Mary Poppins.  Finally at a quarter to midnight, we packed up and headed to the bridge.  Where we waited.

And watched…

The men working in the dark.

The other crazy people that were out after midnight.

My girls visiting with the men from UDOT that were giving away the water and popcorn.

We learned that there is only one company in the world that can move something that weighs as much as the bridge.  Apparently, most of the people working down on the ground, with the hydraulics or running the remote control were not from here.  They were all from Europe.  Talk about culture shock getting to spend the weekend in Utah!

The bridge stopped moving right before we got there because they had hit an uneven spot.  The next hour was spent waiting for them to flatten out the ground.  We went home at 1.  At 1:15 @pioneercrossing tweeted that the bridge was once again moving.

Here’s where the bridge had to move…

The West side and…

The East side.

Here’s where the bridge was, the WHOLE time we were there…

The girls went to bed close to 1:30 and woke up after 10.  They were still pretty wiped out for the day, but I’m really glad we went.  Now they get to say they watched that bridge almost get moved into place.

**** PS – I know the title says “Weights” instead of “Weighs” and “at the night” doesn’t make sense but “in the night” or “at night” does.  I have some funky custom fields thing that won’t let me change the name of a post after it has been saved as a draft or posted. 🙂

Tuesday Tips- Live and Love as if there is no tomorrow

Many many years ago, I had the opportunity to work for an amazing young woman.  Julie was a fantastic boss and we quickly became friends.  I got to know her outside of work because I was a friend of her boyfriend, now husband.  Quite a few years ago, her son was diagnosed with leukemia and eventually another terminal illness.  He fought the leukemia.  Last year, Brigham passed away.

I first saw this video on one of C Jane’s sites.  I knew I had to share.

Julie and Randy, I love you and I’m so grateful for our friendship and for the example you have set of living life and loving life.

I Heart Faces- Play

I love looking at this picture and remembering how hard she was trying to blow a bubble.  I guess she was just trying to hard.  She loves the bubbles that she is using because her hands don’t get messy like they do with normal bubbles.  She has told me a number of times since then how cool her new bubbles are with the handle.

Be sure and check out the beautiful PLAY entries at I Heart Faces.
