Meet Amy

I have struggled with the answer when asked, "What do you do?" and it isn't work-related. Ultimately, we settled on that I find things and untangle things. But I also read (a lot), pretend to wake surf, and watch Hallmark films.

So so good! Orla and Kate are long-time best friends off on a girls' weekend away. Kate is a bit of a player who is trying to get back at her soon-to-be-ex, causing her to spend frivolously and do drugs and hook-ups. Orla is a new mom ex...

One week off...

I am not one to complain (very often).  In fact, I try very hard to always look on the bright side of any trial that I may be going through.  Please note that I did say “try”.  I am not always successful at achieving this goal.  But, I do try.

This product is very helpful for me and I take it every day along with this product to help keep my erectile system in check. Buy levitra online. We are aimed at supplying customers all over the world with medications of high quality at lowest prices thus helping to save their money and time.

As you all know, the Thursday before my birthday, I was told that my job had been eliminated.  They asked me to continue working for the next three weeks while I looked for another job.  More importantly, for them, I needed to transition all of my duties over to about 17 people – worldwide.  That meant that while I was sending out resumes, making phone calls and emailing old work friends, I was also building training manuals, conducting trainings and setting up new processes without me in the middle.  It was a very daunting task and one that I had to do well.  Many people would say, “They eliminated your job, just leave them hanging”.  I could not do that to them.  Instead, I worked my fanny off to ensure everyone had what they needed and had a document to go back to should they have any questions.  I even told them to call me if they needed to.  (Only the sweet girl in China has actually taken me up on that offer).

Well, last Thursday my job ended.  It was very sad to say goodbye to the people but I wasn’t sad about leaving.

See, I had been offered a promotion prior to having my job eliminated.  It would have required me traveling 2 weeks out of the month.  When they gave me the offer for the promotion, I can’t describe the sick feeling that flooded through my body.  Immediately I knew I couldn’t take it.  But my boss, and good friend, encouraged me to go home and think about it.  When I decided not to take it, I slept peacefully and knew I had made the right decision.  Scott completely agreed.  The next day, I told my boss.  By declining the position, I knew I was at risk because I had already started the transition of my duties to the other 17 people.

The following week, when I was working from home and received a call to come into the office, I knew what was coming.  As my boss walked with me past HR and the HR representative joined us, I joked with my boss and asked if he was letting me go.  He stammered and muttered as we walked into the HR conference room.

When he delivered the news to me, I think I smiled.  I joked with them about having me leave before the end of the quarter.  I felt a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders and I could tell that them letting me go was the right thing.  Especially since I am not a quitter and was never going to leave my job otherwise.  After our meeting, I told my boss thank you and that I appreciated all that he has done for me.  I gave him a hug and he said “you aren’t supposed to be the one consoling me.”  But, I knew I did.  I knew the whole process had been very hard on him.

The first week after the news I was out-of-town at a photography convention.  (Which was totally and completely AMAZING).  I was so busy that I didn’t have time to think about that I didn’t have a job anymore.  But I was reminded of it when I’d wander the trade show floor and had to keep my wallet in my bag because I had no idea what was going to happen on the job front.  What if I couldn’t find a job?  What if we lost our house?  What if?  What if??

After the conference, I came home and started sending out resumes and reaching out to friends.  That Friday, I called a friend that used to be one of my Vice Presidents.  I told him what happened and he said to come in on Monday for an interview.  I spent two hours at the office, visiting with the hiring manager and two old friends.   I kept sending out resumes and reaching out to friends.

I didn’t want to talk about it because I wasn’t sure how everything would play out.

In the end, I signed my separation papers from my old job and signed my offer letter all in one day.  So I wasn’t sad to leave what had been comfortable for 6 years, because I knew already that a new adventure was waiting to begin.  Something that I’m excited to do and know I can do well.

After 3 weeks of not knowing, it feels good to have taken this week off knowing that Monday I am going to work – closer to home and doing a job that will help me reach my goals: personally and professionally.

Hopefully now my absence from the blogosphere will be less pronounced.  I’m looking forward to catching up on everyone’s blogs and joining in the conversation once more.

Now to get through the next few days of trying to complete all of the projects that I have put off for the past 6 years all in one week…. ugh.  And therein lies my complaint.  I am never going to be able to sort through everything that I have wanted to organize and clean, plus play as much as possible.  One week flies by way quicker than I expected!

*** PS.  The painting is by my cousin, Emily.  It is of the 10 virgins.  I felt that it was appropriate for this post, because it is so important to always be prepared.  Not only in what we bring to the table today, but all of our past experiences and situations that make up who we are.  Had I burned bridges at the end of my last job, I would not have been able to land the job I did.  I’m quite certain I would still be looking and the panic and anxiety would totally have kicked in.  We all make mistakes but if we can repair those bridges and right our wrongs, we too will have all of the oil that we need.  (Thanks Em- Love you and love this painting).

Lesson 6 of the New Testament

In many of the orthodox religions, the leader of the congregation reads or recites many scriptures or prayers.   If you are invited to recite one of the prayers and comment, you are expected to recite it as it is written.  In my limited experience with orthodox services, you are not expected to comment at length.

In Luke 4:16-19 we can read about that exact custom that Christ, our Savior followed.

16  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17  And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
18  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Who was the prophet “Esaias”? – It is Isaiah.

Can we take a look at the differences between Isaiah 61:1-2 and Luke 4:18-19?

1  The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach  good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to gbind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim  iberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2  To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

I think this is interesting, because to me, it illustrates two things.

What do you think it illustrates?

I feel it shows how quickly scripture can be changed in translation.  It also shows me that Christ shared the true words and scriptures no matter what was accepted as scripture by the people.

Why do you think the Jesus chose those specific scriptures to read?

With our knowledge and testimonies of Jesus Christ, what are some ways that He fulfilled these prophesies?

After He sat down the congregation continued to look at Him.  At which time He said something very important and for those that were there, it proved to be very upsetting.

Luke 4:21

21  And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

What does it mean that “This day is this scripture fulfilled”?

Knowing what you know today, what would your response have been to those words?

Now imagine that you are an ancient Jew that had studied the prophesies and took them to mean that the Savior would come and free them from Roman control.  Imagine that your belief was that that was the reason there was a Messiah.

What would your response have been to those words?

Luke 4:22-29 will share with us how those that were there that day received the news.

22  And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?
23  And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.
24  And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
25  But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;
26  But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.
27  And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.
28  And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,
29  And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.

Why do you think they responded that way?

After Christ announced that He is the Messiah, He began the journey of finding and calling His apostles.

What is an apostle?

How is an apostle different from a disciple?

Christ personally selected and invited is apostles to follow him and then He asked them to be His apostles.

Who were the first to of His apostles that He invited to follow Him?

What were Simon Peter and James doing when Christ approached him?

Luke 5:1- 3

1  And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2  And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3  And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

How did Christ’s action foreshadow what was in store for Peter and James?

Luke 5:4- 11

4  Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5  And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6  And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7  And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8  When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
9  For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
10  And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt acatch men.
11  And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

The would work where Jesus directed them, they would find many people who accept the gospel and the would call others to assist in the work.

When Jesus first asked them to join Him, He called them disciples.  In Luke 6:12-13 we can learn how he made the transition from calling them disciples to apostles.

12  And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
13  And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose  twelve, whom also he named apostles;

Jesus took it very seriously when He called them to be apostles.  Being an apostle is such an important and special calling.  Yet, the 12 men that He called His apostles were not “special” men.

What are some of the professions of those that were called to be the original 12?  fishermen, tax collector

What are some of the professions of the current apostles? business men, lawyers, a doctor, educators, an engineer

Why did Christ need apostles?  He is the Messiah, what value add were the apostles?

QUIZ:

What are the names of the original 12 apostles?  (Simon Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphæus, and Simon called Zelotes, And Judas the brother of James, and Judas)

What are the names of the current 12 apostles?  (Presidents Monson, Eyring and Uchtdorf, Elders Packer, Perry, Nelson, Oaks, Ballard, Scott, Hales, Holland, Bednar, Cook, Christofferson and Anderson)

Elder Bednar gave an amazing interview on the role of an apostle.  I enjoyed and learned many wonderful things about him and the way the brethren approach being an apostle.  He said,

“The Church is not a large corporation and the apostles are not the board of directors.  This is an individual work.  The Savior knows people by name.  He knows their circumstances.  He directs us in our work to bless the lives of individuals, not run a gigantic organization.”

That quote to me shows exactly why the Savior called apostles while He was still on the earth.  The Lord knows us individually.  He knows our circumstances.  And He has called men.  Ordinary men to be the messenger to carry His message to individuals.

How has your life been changed by following the counsel and teachings of the apostles?

I know that Jesus is the Messiah.  I know that He will be recognized as such when he comes again.  It was not the plan for Him to be accepted with open arms by all who met Him during his ministry on the earth.  But I do know that He is the messiah and that He knows me and He knows you.  I know that His apostles today can help us draw closer to our Lord.

Our Family's Favorite Restaurant

Birthdays we like to make special and we seem to gravitate towards our own traditions.  One thing that is fast becoming a tradition is going to a tepan restaurant for each of the kids birthdays.   We went a few days early for Jade’s because we were able to have both sets of grandparents join us.

This time, I brought my good camera with me and I wasn’t afraid to pull it out.

If you only take one supplement take this one! It supports your immune system from the inside! Your body will thank you. London uk buy generic viagra! Our Online Canadian Pharmacy is verified by Pharmacy Checker.

Here are some of my favorite things about Tepanyaki….

The onion volcano that turns into a choo choo train (complete with the conductor/chef’s whistle).

Large shrimp and extremely tender filet – cooked rare, of course.  (Soapbox – for those of you that cook your steaks well done or even medium well, you are losing so much of the flavor and you are making your meat tougher.  Please, next time you go to a restaurant ask for medium rare.  If you don’t like it, they’ll throw it back on the grill for you.  Stepping down now).

The chicken is usually my least favorite – but when you do the feast for two, it comes with chicken.  (Yes, the feast for two feeds all 4 of us and we buy and extra soup and salad for the girls to share).

Two girls who cleaned their plates get to enjoy the complimentary birthday ice cream.  And as a mom, I couldn’t have been more happy than when they shared it nicely and never complained or pushed the other out of the way.

It was a very fun night.  The only down side of a tepan restaurant… it is really difficult to have a conversation with the rest of the group.  The fans are loud and the tables are large.

Birthday celebration #1 for Jade – done.  Next we have  a field trip, treats and school, treats at the gym, and a party.  Phew – being 8 is a big deal.

A Letter to Teenage Jade

I know that Jade is just turning 8, but in reading the prompts from Mama Kat’s Workshop, I thought that now is as good of a time as any to write a letter for Jade to read when she is that dreaded 13-19 year old.  (I did say dreaded as those were some of my least favorite years of my life.  Hopefully she and Ivy will not repeat my mistakes but will listen to the stories I will share with them – only when necessary).

Have just started using this product but it was highly recommended by a friend/dietition. Cialis generic order online problem! Discuss your general health status with your doctor to ensure that you are healthy enough to engage in sexual activity.

Dear Jade-

As I write this, you are at dance working very hard and constantly improving.  I don’t know that you will still love dance or gymnastics by the time you are a teenager.  But I sincerely hope that you will.

And this is why…

Being a teenager sucks.  Sure, there are great things about being a teenager and growing up.  But overall, it is really a tough time of life.  Your body is changing, you’re moody, boys suddenly seem like someone you’d like to hang out with rather than just play video games with.  But they are interested in sports or girls that don’t want to play video games.  Plus your friends are all going through exactly the same thing and that is going to cause problems.  There’s going to be jealousy where there never was before.  You’ll find yourself comparing yourself to others a lot and you’ll feel like you don’t measure up.  No matter how amazing you are.  Not only will you be dealing with those trials, but there will be friends that start experimenting with alcohol, drugs and boys.  They’ll try and use your insecurities and your desire to be liked to get you to join in.

I know that if you are involved in extracurricular activities, like dance or gymnastics or music or sports you will be so busy doing something that you love that you won’t have time to get caught up in the teenage traps.  Your activities will help you be surrounded by positive influences from working with a group or a team.  You will gain discipline by working hard to perfect your skills and balancing your time between school, church and your talents.  Your friends will all be as busy as you are and together you will all have an absolute blast doing what you do.

Jade, you are an amazing young lady.  You have got to remember that junior high and high school are only a few years out of your life.  What matters most is what you are able to become after high school.   If you can remember this than it won’t matter when friends quit being friends and boys consider you their best friend and not their date.  You can keep your chin up when you are past over in try-outs or auditions because you know that after high school you will be stronger and more prepared for real life.

And of course, remember that you are a child of God and He loves you too.   Follow Christ’s example and be kind to everyone – even when they aren’t kind to you.   Always take the high road and stay true to your beliefs.

Be focused, study hard, pray always and remember that I love you and will be there for you no matter what.

I love you and can’t wait to watch you grow up.
