Meet Amy

I have struggled with the answer when asked, "What do you do?" and it isn't work-related. Ultimately, we settled on that I find things and untangle things. But I also read (a lot), pretend to wake surf, and watch Hallmark films.

The Weekend Away
it was amazing
So so good! Orla and Kate are long-time best friends off on a girls' weekend away. Kate is a bit of a player who is trying to get back at her soon-to-be-ex, causing her to spend frivolously and do drugs and hook-ups. Orla is a new mom ex...

Maybe Next Time
really liked it
Parts were a screaming 5 and parts were like “what?” And just irritated me. It is a Groundhog Day premise about a family of four - the mom is caught up in her own life and missing all that is going on around her with her kids and then he...

One of my weaknesses – Tuesday Tips

I have many weaknesses, and it is time I share one of them.  I don’t shop a lot and I keep my clothes for many many years.  Because I keep them for so long, my closet runneth over.  It really isn’t very bad if I would take the time each night to hang up the clothes that I wear or put my clothes on hangers after I do my many loads of laundry each week.  IF I did, but I don’t.  I’m not sure why I have such a bad relationship with my closet, but I really do.  The more I put on my plate, the worse my closet gets.  We refer to it as “my pile.”  You know I’m feeling overwhelmed when the “pile” extends to my side of the bed.  That pile had extended to my side of the bed.

I have to go out of town tomorrow.  Scott was hopeful that I would make my side of the closet look more like his side if not before I left than at least by the weekend.  So, Zero and I headed up to the closet and started working our way through the pile.

And after an hour or so, we had everything hanging.  We have yet to sort the items by color and type, but at least everything is hung up.

So for this week’s Tuesday tip, I just want to point out that we all (I) have our (my) weaknesses.  Although keeping my closet organized and taking immaculate are of my clothes is a weakness, it is only one of my many.

Another one of my weaknesses is that I tend to compare my weaknesses with everyone else’s strengths.  And then I beat myself up accordingly.  For example, I know women who keep their closets as perfect as they keep the rest of their house.    My normal response is to go on and on to Scott that I am such a bad housekeeper and that it is really pointless.  I ask him why do I even try when I am never going to be able to keep my house, let a lone my closet company ready.  I hate to admit I can’t do it all.  I’m guessing, I’ll return from my trip and instead of putting my clothes away, or hanging up my clothes after I finish the laundry, everything will end up right back on the floor.

But guess what?  I’m learning that it is okay not to do everything.  And it is up to us to pick and choose what tasks, talents or activities we want to focus on.  I choose not to care about my closet.

(Oh, know what else?  I love having a handy husband.  One day he came home early from work so that he could make me shoe shelves.  I actually still manage to put my shoes where they go – just not my clothes.)

Oh, sigh.

Stef- don’t be too impressed. it hasn’t happened yet and by the time I left to go out of town this morning, i already had a pile of clothes started on my floor.

Mel- 20 minutes to get dressed to or to get ready? plus you have so many darling clothes so the decision has to be tough and 20 minutes is impressive.

Paige- Like Stef said, it’s a woman thing. Why we beat ourself up is beyond me.

  • It’s a woman thing and it only becomes worse when it becomes a mommy thing. So many more things to be weak at. But I have to say I am impressed that at some point you put them into color codes and type of clothes. I am lucky if they ever get out of the laundry basket…you know the one that is supposed to hold dirty clothes, but mostly holds the clean ones while my dirty clothes lie on the floor. I am really impressed. REALLY!!!

I feel the exact same way about my closet! And, if I did keep it organized I might actually be able to get dressed in the morning in less than 20 minutes!

  • I beat myself up, too, but you’re right – it’s pointless. There’s always someone better at [insert thing here] but there’s also someone worse!

It’s nice to have a handy man around the house. My fiance made me a jewelry box last year. It’s beautiful…and personlized!
